Malo Industries N54 Crank Bolt Capture (CBC)
While this isn’t a one-stop solution for every crank hub failure scenario, most issues we’ve encountered trace back to one root cause: the factory crank bolt working itself loose. The Malo CBC directly addresses that weak point by locking the bolt in place, adding a critical layer of protection without overcomplicating the setup.
Because it’s CNC-machined from lightweight billet aluminum, the capture adds virtually no additional mass to the crank. That means no unwanted balance changes, no extra vibration — just peace of mind knowing the bolt stays exactly where it should.
Installation
- Remove plastic covers to access the belt tensioner. Release and remove the serpentine belt, making note of the belt routing for reinstallation.
Remove the radiator fan to create additional working space around the harmonic balancer.
Remove the lower splash guard to gain access from underneath the vehicle.
Loosen and remove the factory harmonic balancer bolts.
Prepare the new hardware: Apply a small amount of Loctite to the threads of the six supplied bolts. Hand-thread each bolt through the Crank Bolt Capture and into the crank hub.
Torque the hardware: Using a 6mm hex bit socket, snug all bolts, then torque to 25 ft-lbs (35 Nm). Repeat the torque sequence at least twice to ensure even seating.
Reassemble the vehicle: Reinstall the splash guard, radiator fan, serpentine belt (following the correct routing), and plastic covers.
